Brandie Freely; Truths and Freedom

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing local author Brandie Freely on her new book Truths and Freedom. After finally lining up our schedules for the interview, she let me in on some insight that inspired it, as well as if there will be a continuation. The book retells stories that have shaped her life and made her into the person she is today. Check out our interview below to find out more about her and the book.

TABA: What was the big inspiration behind the book?

BF: It's a bit hard to pick one thing, I've always kept a journal my whole life. The book stems from my childhood and is set 7+ years back from 2003 - 2011. These are all things I've written about, and are connected to read like a story.

TABA: What message do you want the readers to take away from Truths and Freedom?

BF: I want them to just take life lessons with them. I feel like truth is the true definition of freedom. Don't hide parts of yourself, Don't hide your humanity. That's true freedom.

TABA: Who did you dedicate this book to?

BF: The book is dedicated to my daughter, but I also dedicated it to my ancestors who had so many stories to tell, but no way to write them. I want them to live through my writing, their unrealized dreams and everything they didn't get a chance to share.

TABA: What is your favorite line in the book?

BF: Oh man that's a hard one, I think if I had to chose it would be "Trusting the process takes patience."

TABA: Do you plan on writing a second book to continue telling the story?

BF: Yes, something similar. A continuation book on the healing process.

This next question was not really a question I planned to ask but came about in conversation when we spoke a bit off topic.

TABA: What was one thing that encouraged you to keep writing?

BF: Well I post on Instagram frequently and I just started noticing that people related and responded to what I was writing about and sharing.

DIY Glass bottle Vase

Hola guys and gals!  I think staying up late to get writing is finally catching up to me, but I just cannot stop. If you follow me on Insta stories or are my friend on Facebook, you might know by know I'm in love with the Rose water lemonade from Tout Suite and every time I am there I get the rose water Lemonade which is the stuff dreams are made of (pretty much) I have accumulated a few bottles and decided that it was time to use them for something other than my almond milk lattes every morning ;)

Here I have decided to convert two of the bottles into colorful pretty vases for lack of better term. I added color to transform them into a pretty little thing you can put your flowers in, or even use as a pencil holder, or hang string lights from, there are so many options here if you really get creative with it.

Materials:

Clean glass bottle
Two or more small  bottles of paint from colors of your choosing
Pour color #1 in this case I started with cotton candy pink
* As I poured the pink color into the bottle I turned it so it would create a dripping effect
Pour color #2 and repeat same method applied when pouring the first color
* After I poured the second color which was cotton candy blue I turned the bottle once again and it created this great mesh for both colors that gave off a great mix of pastel colors ( kinda really reminded me of getting cotton candy at the fair)

After you have done all these steps it's important to note that the paint will still be wet and runny. What I did was turn the bottle to mix the colors for about two minutes and the layed it down on the floor . This took about three hours to dry on the surface but I waited until the next day to test putting anything inside of it so it would not smudge the paint.

Below is the final result of the bottle by itself.

5 Ways to be Productive this Week

Productivity is something we all struggle with at some point. There are just days when you don't feel like doing much, and laziness creeps up (hello Netflix marathon) and before you know it you've hardly gotten anything done and feel like the days are just passing you by.

LBD & Lace up Sandals

This week has been a trying one, I have had a lot of work to keep up with and although I'm good with deadlines I have been struggling to keep up. When you have a load of work you're used to it's easy to find a routine but taking up on more work definitely takes patience and is a learning curve.

Star Struck

I have been insanely busy this week and even though it is only Wednesday I cannot wait to sleep two extra hours on Saturday. Since it's halfway to through the week and I'm feeling a more adventurous than I am tired. I put this outfit together.

Mauve Tones

Hello lovely people!  This is my first #ootd post since being back from Fashion Week in New York and I couldn't be more excited.
Today I have partnered up with Tobi to bring you this lovely mauve dress. I am in love with this the color and the style, and guess what it is a perfect dress to transition into fall... although lets be honest (fall in Houston?) not gonna happen.
